Susan Adams works at her studio near Brecon in Wales and teaches as Creative Workshop Leader and Associate Lecturer. Her practice embraces various media including painting, printmaking, painted woodcarving and animation. After studying Painting at Norwich School of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art in London, Adams became Fine Art Fellow at Cheltenham College of Art. She then worked as Artist in Residence in India, the USA and the UK including at ArtsAcre Calcutta, Millay Colony for the Arts New York, Welsh National Opera, Ynys Enlli, Oriel Mostyn and Shaftesbury Abbey. She was also selected to become the first Artist in Residence at Gloucester Cathedral. Drawn to the uncanny, Susan Adams is engaged with expressing a sense of narrative through art, making use of folk art, literature, film and children’s book illustration. She is interested in the exchange between the solidly real and invisible worlds entered through belief and the imagination. Susan Adams has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, recent venues in Wales include the Museum of Modern Art Wales, Elysium Gallery, Oriel y Bont, Oriel Mostyn, Oriel Mwldan, MADE Gallery Cardiff, as well as shows in London, Bristol, Paris, Maastricht and Zagreb. From Autumn 2023 Adams will be inviting artists and members of the public to work at her newly developed Print Studio near Brecon, offering residencies and workshops in etching, woodcut and screenprint.
