Towner Art Gallery - a-n The Artists Information Company
Four projects from a-n members, selected from a-n’s busy Events section and including exhibitions and events in Birmingham, Cheltenham, Eastbourne and Thurrock.
The former director of Southend-on-Sea’s Focal Point Gallery takes up his new role in Eastbourne at a difficult time for the gallery, as local council cuts mean a 50% reduction in funding over the next four years. Judith Alder finds him relishing the challenges ahead, and with a focus on opportunities for the gallery to play a more central role in the life of the East Sussex town.
The gallery’s chair of trustees, David Dimbleby, says the cuts will jeopardise the future of the organisation which is based in a purpose-built building that opened in 2009.
This week’s selection includes art by email at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, light art in Eastbourne and George Shaw’s paintings in Kendal.
