The influential American abstract artist Ellsworth Kelly died on 27 December, 2015. He was 92.

In 2012, he was the recipient of the US National Medal of Art, presented by the National Endowment for the Arts.

Interviewed at the time for a short podcast, he spoke about his difficulty with words, what led him to be an artist, his time in France, and the artists that influenced his work.

The interview acts as a fitting tribute to a much-admired painter.
