i’ve been thinking alot about the degree show and what i want to show…

i’m thinking of a space with a gathering of objects which sort of sum up my concerns, although this space will not be an installation as i want each peice to be able to work on their own as well as within this larger gathering…to this end i’m thinking of having something simular, prehaps even a copy of an object in a compleatly diffrent area of the building or even city?? or prehaps documentation elsewhere… obvisouly still a lot to work out but i’ve been drawing up some things which could start to work togeather…

one thing i’m working on ideas for is a trailer:bench:bed which i’ll ellaborate on some other time…

i’m also working on a space seperating object which is going to be a sort of swiss army knife of space re-use…

maybe…anyway theres some drawings and notes for that to the right… and i’ve started work on a physical (3D) sketch of this which is something i’ve found really useful in working out sizes and other technical details – something i wouldn’t have tried if it wasn’t for an artist talk i attend yesterday by neal rock who showed a few of his own “sketches”

I’ve been working on a collection of drawings which i can see becoming an on-going strand of work…bassically i’m collecting images of backpacks from the internet (if anybody wants to help out jpegs to [email protected] with your full name please!!) and then digitally drawing them in photoshop,

i’m thinking about ways we traditionally travel through actual spaces here and how the objects we use in doing that can be translated into our journys in digital space

i’m trying to work out what i keep in my digital backpack at the minute – i think it might be this blog, my facebook, my youtube account, hotmail account, itunes account, photoshop…

blog = sketchbook

facebook = social club / bar

youtube = VCR / DVD player

hotmail = mobile phone

itunes = collections

photoshop = pencil case

i had PS1 booked out for myself today so i could document and to be honest actually look at some things i’ve been working on recently…

i took up sleep wer n wen u like so i could get some good photo’s which i’ve now sent to tarpey gallery in castle donnington for the midlands open exhibition 2010

i also took up my oil print on bunting which i’ve been a little concerned about for a while…whilst in the space i evened out some of the spacing across the joins, and worked out a method to ease handeling and hanging it. i also came up with a title, Bunting: Little Black Flags. i discovered how difficult it is to photograph inits entritey as well but did manage to get some useful images which i’ve sent off for the 2011 affordable garden art compitition and exhibition

i got out the documentaton of object for moving over #2 out and had a little look at that again, it needs a bit of a dusting then i think i’m going to pop it into my portfolio which i’m planning on giving an updating sometime soon.

i put my enargement of a billboard piece on the wall for the first time and was really pleased with it but just want to carry on enlarging it!! i think each A3 piece is going to become A1, also another title presented itself whilst staring at it and making some notes; #8: 32 sheet relating to my manifesto points and then to standard sizes of billboard sheets

i’m getting more and more intrested in standard sizes

the final thing i took up to PS1 was a set of wall mounted speakers to which i attached an MP3 player with my voice piece which i titled 3,4 and 1 spoken @ intervals which i had set to loop, so every 5 minutes you would hear a diffrent phrase but after 15 minutes it returns to the first one…

had a little meeting with Matt Webb where we discussed working on the mapping 1 book (we’re starting next week), we also discussed re-shooting dance:stagger which i’ve decided to re- name DANCE:STAGGER (body’s reliance on architecture) and he said he’d try and give me a hand… we chatted about nothing really for a while as well

Been working with sound a lot this week…

I’ve made 2 versions of a work to be installed in indoor public spaces…i’m thinking librarys, hospitals, etc… bassically each work is around 15 mins long and each have 3 of my manifesto phrases in seperated by around 5 mins of silence. They are ment to be played on repeat and are something which may not be noticed but could sneak into someones life. The first version is my own voice and the 2nd version is a digital voice (that belongs to Microsoft Anna) taken from TEXTALOUD.

I’ve also received some sound from Flowlosopha for a colaberation we’re working on…i’m gonna have a play with it on monday as i’ve got PS1 booked out. I’ve also been working out if there are prints i could make for this work – still not sure on that though!!!

I’ve been working on masks for my dissertation filming and have written a little more and have been emailing people (generally asking for documentation of work and/or quotes)

been working on a billboard work as well which i think is looking much better than the painted version i had been working on previously…

not got as many photos as i would have liked but nether the less been a very productive day… i did manage to photograph a few things i haven’t had chance to…

i also worked on a sort of frame for a print i made as part of my proposal pack for NEW MEDIA DAET, i also re-wrote and proof read my proposal and emailed it off…just got to wait to hear back from them now!!!

had a fundraising meeting and generally spent quite a while in front of computers…

tomorrow is dissertation script writing day and if i get chance i might start storyboarding… i’m still looking for possiable people to play the roles of people spaeking in my dissertation and i should proberbly start on making the masks my “actors” will eventually wear.

I only try to post when i’ve either got video or photo’s to post…however… i’ve not got too many things to look at at the moment!!! been very busy though…the CV has been touched up and the artists statement has been compleatly re-written, i’ve also started work on a portfolio of what i feel are my most resolved works, it features both objects for moving over, sign work #2, a text work and object 4 moving on: its a small world but on a bike it feels big. I’m also going to pop dance:stagger in once its re-shot…

I’ve been working on a few digital things which i’m feeling quite good about… i’ve set up an online group crit of work made since the mapping 1 show for the people who exhibited in it and i’m working on my proposal pack for New Media Daet. I’m hoping to send 1206 text messages over the 6 day course of the exhibition – 100 daily in philippino to an english speaking audiance found via www.facebook.com , 6 daily to one of the exhibition team in english who will then forward it to 100 philippino speaking people of their choice…i believe this to be the quickest way to spread my text phrases to a global audiance and to challenge them at the same time through the translation of language… as well as these there will be a video uploaded to www.youtube.com and proberbly to this blog each day showing me sending these messages to further spread the message.i’ve also made a digital print depicting this network which i will upload tomorrow once its framed and i’ve got a nice image of it.

I’m hoping to get a few photos of things done tomorrow – including my sleeping bag work sleep wer n wen u like both hung and in use. I also want to get some photos of the bunting i’ve been working on – its 40 something flags with an oil based relief print accross it reading c the architecture round u n use its details. And i’ve spotted a few more possiable locations for dance:stagger i want to shoot quickly before i film next week.

Just reading that back has again made me ask a question i’ve been asking myself a lot lately – is this huge range of media and process’ i’m working with confusing the way in which my pratice is read?? having re-read my newly re-written statement i think that its important that i work across diverse media so i can meet the aims i have set for my pratice, after all

“my work revolves around ideas of reinterpreting public space”
