The aim of this blog is to document the development of my work and ideas, as I respond to the Joseph Wright collection at Derby Museum and Art Gallery.

Invited by Synapse Arts, Derby Museum and Art Gallery and Derby University. I aim to explore the relationship between art and science using the collection as a starting point.

So it all got a bit more complicated than just splitting the project into two parts. And then that complication inevitably left me slightly if not lost then at least bemused about how I could approach clarifying the links.

So now I have decided to simply post images demonstrating different linking ideas I am currently working with and then hopefully showing the links as I go.

So linking from the Higgs boson will be the next post!

Today I re-read the biography I used recently for an exhibition at S1 artspace in Sheffield in order to help write a new text for the show at Derby Museum. It really has helped me to write more clearly about my ideas and research and how influential the residency has been for me and my practice. As a result I thought it might be a good way to begin to introduce my work to the blog.

Hannah Shaw was born in Nottingham, 1989 and now lives and works in Sheffield, having studied BA Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University (2012). Her practice is focused on creating connections between often disparate ideas through extensive research. Strongly influenced by the work of the Russian avant-garde, her work aims to use new discoveries and ideas within the sciences to view the world through new eyes and renew a sense of besottedness with the world around her.

I am currently at a stage in the project that I am really excited about. To best explain my ideas I am going to talk about the work in two separate parts. I will start with part one tomorrow!
