Dwelling in the art of conversation!

J. Graefe (1935) comments on The Dwelling and the lack of cohesion between work, living and space. That intellectual tools require care and protection in leisure. Observing the prolific outpouring of artistic writing via Blogs, websites, collaborative pieces and social networking sites, we are more able to ponder and reflect, comment and critic than ever before. It is a sport that is immaterial and does not require the purchasing of work, collecting or otherwise. In fact how many ideas are dreamt, spoken and written and don’t actually materialise? I have a heap of them right here. we have dwellings for art, we have dwellings for life and we dwell here on our thoughtful endeavours. The art of conversation has expanded well outside the 4 walls of our space. Our space that is required for recuperation & leisure actually dwells within these sites that we trawl. It strikes me that we thrive on conversation, the art of it is developed and broad and whereas the art of conversation was integral to the structure and cohesion of a home, it has undoubtedly altered. Perhaps our conversation is about where we feel at home. the Dwelling for conversation is charaterized by like mindedness. We congregate in groups of musicians artists, we collaborate and talk across disciplines. We create social groups like nests.

Back to Graeffe – I think there is more cohesion between work, space and home. More and more our homes reflect our thought life, work and aspirations, yet we manage fragmented tasks. We increasingly merge work and leisure particularly as practitioners. We are so busy. So is this the leisure that promotes intellectual activity? Possibly so, as it is the very outlet for thought life that is produced from conversation in the pub and home. Yet, I can’t help wondering how much conversation is live in the home, and how much of our conversation traverses social strata? I’ll comment after I’ve been to the pub to take part in the art of conversation.
