Things are starting to hot up – I’m now only twelve days away from the start of the actual project. This will start with 4 groups of ‘woodland walks – research and tree identification workshops’. These will allow the children to collect inspiring materials, do drawings, bark rubbings etc and think about what they would like their tree totem to look like. I have made up some little books for them to collect their materials and am absurdly proud of the front cover – I hope the whole project looks as good!

With not long to go I still don’t have the tubes (120 of them) into which I will need to drill holes to make the totems. I am getting increasingly concerned as this is quite a time consuming (and messy) job. I was hoping to do this outside but weather conditions are looking a bit grim. My ad requesting ‘inexpensive studio space’ in the local shop has not produced any space at all. I am hoping not to have to drill in our newly decorated kitchen…….. Luckily I have had offers of help from friends so it may well be a ‘drill and wine’ party at my house on Friday!

I had a meeting at Fineshade Woods today and we have decided to slightly move the location of the circle. I feel much happier about this as it will show the illuminations both day and night. The new location is actually in the middle of some trees wheras it was going to be in a small clearing which was quite light – would have been fine during the night but the illumination would not show during the day.

This site is also much nearer the path and will entice people who may be reluctant to enter into the wooded area.

The flyer is finally done – it is full of logos but I suppose I can’t really complain when people have donated money! It also adds a certain kudos to a project to say that organisations are willing to help it go ahead. I have just about got it done in time for the mail out date. Hurrah.

Well I was supposed to sort out my flyer today. I have but I have managed to make it even more expensive than before. Result!!!

Am seriously considering hand colouring 2000 pieces of paper in order to save money. And add authenticy… Maybe not – I can see myself in the wee small hours, crayons in hand, weeping….

I could always get my 5 year old to do it – he is really good at colouring……

Have spent all day fighting with the computer trying to make a flyer for the installation. I really do need to go on a Quark course! Not very happy with the results and may have to rethink the whole thing. How do I fit all the information I need plus directions, times and the many logos that I am contractually committed to including into an A5 space? Is it style over substance or important information over looking good – I don’t know!
