Have just published images from Smugglers Festival at www.timothyleek.co.uk/outofthefire.html. It was a one day workshop at a music festival in Deal, asking festival goers and musicians to perform for the camera. I keep making work on sofas, I think I quite like the space, it’s quite personal how you react to a seat. I think I also like playing with people’s self consciousness by pointing a camera and lights at them whilst still remaining fairly unconfrontational. I suppose we’re always watched and therefore always aware of ourselves and always performing at some level, and these photos pick up on that.
I have just re-designed my website and something I’ve been meaning to do for a while is start a blog. Somewhere I can show work in progress and just keep people updated on what I’m up to.
Right now I’m preparing for an exhibition in Herne Bay at Animate Arts Company’s studio, The Pod. It’s part of East Kent Open Studios and is open for 3 weekends, 15th, 16th, 22nd, 23rd, 29th, 30th October from 11am-5pm. I’m exhibiting some portraits of my daughter sleeping which I started taking when I began looking after her full-time in March. So if you’re around in Herne Bay over the next few weekends please pop in and say hello.
