Been in studio today nice and quite so got some work done, been thinking how to exhibit my bricks with baby walker.
Want them to look part of the work instead of a after thought, which bricks to use and how to display them.

Been reading Kabakov approach to his installation and feel l need to try similar approach in my installations, they should be sparse but powerful.

Kabakov has said the important dilemma facing any viewer of work is the immersing of oneself, been re reading an interview done with Kabakov and Storr, he talks about the viewer and interpretation of whats in front of the viewer, does the viewer read does it make them feel uncomfortable or do they walk past not really taking notice of the image in front of them.

One day there will be a level of contact between viewer and the work as with theatre and other forms of performance.

This element l feel needs brought into my own work, so a minimum of dialogue, just images and maybe sound would work well.

Also been in library today reading some new books, Light Volumes art and landscape by Monika Gora has been brought home to read and digest.

Extract found in Poetics of Imaginining Kearney, R.

“every corner in a house, every angle in a room, every inch of secluded space in which we like to hide, or withdraw into ourselves is a symbol of solitude for the imagination.
An imaginary room rises up around our body, which we think well hidden when we take refuge in a corner.

Gaston Bachelard, The Poetic of Space

Was reminded of the story my mum tells people of how she left me out side Woolworth as a baby, all covered up in blankets in the summer to cover up my disability.

when she came out some elderly lady’s was looking at me with sympathy, mum went mad and shouted at them “get away she don’t need your sympathy” this was the shock she needed as up till than she had not bonded with me.

I was in a special place away from prying eyes.

self – employed and self-driven -a person who works within an intelllectual, conceptual and emotional frame that they designed themselves.
