A few images and not a lot of writing today …

First image is of a tiger painting I created over the summer months for the simple enjoyment of painting – it became more and more illustrative than I meant it to … but I like it

Second image is of a bird cage made of string on brown craft paper … an idea of cages, cells and barriors has started to come through in my work.

The third image is of todays art investment … a decorative birds cage that will form part of my CAGES, CELLS, BARRIORS AND ANIMALS work.

So, I fell like I haven’t posted on here for a while … just a quick update about today … In terms of art works – not a lot has been done today, a few photographs and a drawing of an elephant for an experimental piece (see image).
Today however, I spent at my other half’s graduation … watching him graduate has made me think about how much work I still have to do – but also how exciting (and terrifying) it’s going to be once I have finished … congratulations Ricky ! :D

Decided to have a sketchbook/blog/painting day today and then a Dissertation day tomorrow.

Started a new sketchbook today with a few pages on Damien Hirst and some initial rough sketches of some paintings I’m planning to create over the next few weeks. Still not too sure where I’m going with this project, however the unknowing is making it all the more fun!

Also on this post, I thought I would share two images from my work from last year.

The first image depicts a flock of handmade fabric birds hung in a white space at University. The idea for this piece came from a train journey back from a weekend with my family. I remember looking at a flock of birds, all twisting a flying in unison, out of the train window and how that got me thinking of society, families and friends. As individuals we rely and interact with one another (as birds do) to show the right path, be it a physical or mental path.

The second image is of four boxes/cages that I created at the end of last year. Made from wood, wire mesh and plastic (to represent glass) these boxes have become a starting point to the work I am currently creating this year.

At the moment I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do and create with my animal ideas. Feeling a need to experiment greatly with as many ideas as I can think of. Feeling a little bit confused and lost about the route I’m currently travelling along. Thinking next week I’m going to need to be in the studio a bit more, put the headphones in and just create!

For the time being … I’ll crack on with the Dissertation :-)
