My drawings seem to undergoing a period of change, mainly because of a really good ‘group crit’ session on Tuesday.

I was not allowed to speak while students from another year gave their feedback on my work. Silence does not come easily to me! However just listening to the comments was very helpful. They were very interested in the structure of a collaged piece – As a result I started to think about the buildings that I inhabit.

Today I have made two drawings that relate to yesterday – a day a work in the NHS. They are about structures, movements and my perceptions.

Are these drawings self-portraits? I think they are but also they are leading into a different line of enquiry.

The Cedric Ford Art Exhibition opened this week at Nottingham University’s Jubilee Campus. The prize was won by Helen Hamblin. Her beautiful work Untitled consists of two very sensitive graphite drawings.

Seeing the show I decided that I’m lucky to be included with my drawing Unstable self.

More information about the exhibition can be found on the Fine Art Facebook page www.facebook.com/UoNBAFineArt

Next Tuesday I have a formative assessment which involves presenting my work. As a result this week I have been frantically making new drawings and my ideas have moved on.

I started to make movement drawings related to walking around my house. These have been framed/masked by an imaginary floor plan.

Thinking more about framing and containment has also lead to some interesting but very unfinished drawings which I intend to present next week.

I’m breathing a sigh of relief this morning!

Over recent months I have been writing a funding application with fellow student Ju Smith. We are trying for a grant which would enhance our degree show and enable us to have a professional catalogue, preview event etc.

Having just submitted the application, I can now concentrate on drawing.

I’ve just spent a long time exploring the edges of my self-portraits. Rather than taking the lines outside of the drawings, I have started to contain them within a portrait ‘frame.’ These drawings interest me

However I have also been looking at the work of Abstract Expressionist artists, particularly Franz Kline. As a result I’ve decided to spend the next week making the work bigger.
