‘Moments’ at The Bowery

Artists: Rachel Johns, Elizabeth Nast, Helen Dryden

A group show that sees three disparate artists individually capturing moments as they see them.

The three are interested in different ways of looking at the human experience, working in a variety of media: watercolor, acrylic and ink.

There are a number of events linked to the show:

MEET THE ARTISTS Saturday 27th February, 12:00 – 15:00

‘Moments’ artists welcome you to the Bowery Gallery. Enjoy the new exhibition, and see the artists at work with their sketchbooks. Stop for a chat and learn more about the work from the people who made it.

BODY-SWAP Monday 29th February, 9:00 – 15:00

Helen Dryden, Rachel Johns and Elizabeth Nast are planning to have a ‘Freaky Monday’ experience and swap bodies for the day.
The three artists are taking up the challenge to step into each other’s creative shoes. They plan to follow a series of instructions set by one another, to create a piece of work with fresh eyes and a different perspective. They will document their results and share what they learn via social media.

http://www.thebowery.org/workshops.html

Exhibiting artists will be providing weekend workshops to give participants an insight into their practice.

WATERCOLOUR TECHNIQUES WITH LIZ NAST Saturday 7th May
10am-4pm

£65

Learn from the award winning watercolour artist Elizabeth Nast. At the start of the day you will be introduced to the history of watercolour and the artist’s work, and then followed by tuition on the basic techniques of colour mixing, wet on wet, layering and the use of mixed media. In the afternoon you will create your own postcard sized mini cityscape masterpiece to take home using the techniques you have learned.

All materials and equipment provided, you may wish to bring along a cityscape photograph/image to work from that interests you, but the artist will provide other images as well.

ILLUSTRATION WITH RACHEL JOHNS Sunday 8th May
10am-2pm

£35

Spend the afternoon with our exhibiting artist Rachel Johns who will be sharing her approach to expressive line drawing. The exhibition titled ‘Moments’ will be the inspiration behind the afternoon’s experimentation with mark making and character development culminating in a simple concertina book full of expressive characters.

‘FAMILY FUN’ EXPRESSIVE PORTRAITS WITH HELEN DRYDEN
Sunday 8th May 2:30pm – 4:30pm

£30 Combined Ticket (Adult & Child 6-12yrs)

Working together you will paint a truly unique ‘masterpiece’ onto canvas that will take pride of place in any room and be a lovely memory in years to come.
Please bring an A4 photocopy or printout of someone you want to make your portrait of. This could be someone you know, a selfie, a picture of a celebrity, or just a picture of someone who interests you in some way. You might even want to bring a picture of your pet.

Try and get your printout/photocopy so that the image of the person takes up most of the page, as it will help you to transfer the image onto the canvas. Don’t bring precious original photos in case they get paint on them! You may get messy so please wear old clothes or bring an apron
