All the time I have been working on “earth series” panels, I have been constructing a collection of spheres, which I am calling “creation spheres”, these objects have just evolved and have been created whilst waiting for paint to dry, […]
It’s just over two weeks since I last posted and I believe, that the fortnightly cycle, is a good system to operate in with this sort of thing. A monthly posting and you can forget what your really talking about, […]
Gettingpaid/ websites blog: Two interviews done with Artists here today – things speed up when the end gets closer! These were really interesting as they were more like conversations that developed out of the initial questions (artists I can’t get […]
In “The Analytical Language of John Wilkins,”Borges describes ‘a certain Chinese Encyclopedia,’ the Celestial Emporium of Benevolent Knowledge, in which it is written that animals are divided into: 1. Those that belong to the Emperor 2. Embalmed ones 3. Those […]
“Good Morning, we’re in the press!” I wish i could understand Finnish – my first press appearance, and i don’t understand it! (we’ll ask Markku to translate later). Today is effectively a studio day before my first Performance tomorrow evening, […]
Curiouser & Curiouser! Dunbar Arts Hub Aug/Sept09 – Curiously lots of Mad Hatters opened the exhibition – dining around a huge table on Dunbar High St with cucumber sandwiches, fairy cakes and the queen of heart tarts! Knitted and edible! […]
A move to York as an artist in residence… a year surrounded by children, away from my London life.
I am so over familiar with Stansted airport now, it is a frequented non-place for me – i even have a routine when i go there which involves a flit around the perfume shop, a visit to WH Smiths to […]
Winding of the warp. This week I have really begun to appreciate all the knowledge that our technicians gave us at uni (University for the creative arts Farnham) in the textiles department. Now that I am struggling to wind a […]

Here I am thinking I’m following a new direction when it appears that my past is just re- emerging! ‘Art and the Industrial Revolution’ (Klingender), which kick started my reading, is the book I discovered during A level Art. Recent […]
We had a press meeting at 10am in the old power station which is acting as the center for the Art Week. Most of the meeting was in Finnish, so i didn’t understand much, but was too busy being in […]
PAT SHENSTONE, 'A Mansion On Earth Is Worth Two In The Skies', Oil On Canvas, 2009. Photo: Pat Shenstone. Courtesy: the Artist. The title comes from an old postcard that I bought some time ago,and from some text in 'Cat'sEye'by Margaret Atwood. The Homberg and the Handbag are significant,as are the dogs that prowl about. The image in the mirror refers to a painting titled 'Which Image In The Mirror?, Mother, Daughter, Self'. The plants are a device for the sub-division of the picture plane.
