The four artists nominated for this year’s Turner Prize are Duncan Campbell, Tris Vonna-Michell, Ciara Phillips and James Richards. They work across film, print, sound, craft and design.

Glasgow-based filmmaker Duncan Campbell was one of three artists representing Scotland at the 2013 Venice Biennale. He has been nominated for his Venice presentation, It for Others, which featured archive footage from a 1953 Alan Resnais’ film and included new dance work choreographed by Michael Clark.

Fellow Glasgow-based artist and screenprinter Phillips is nominated for her exhibition, Workshop, at The Showroom, London. Vonna-Michell, who combines spoken word performance with photography and more, is nominated for his installation at the Jan Mot gallery in Brussels.

Richards, at 30 the youngest artist on the list, has been selected for his 2013 Venice Biennale presentation which included his film Rosebud. All but Richards, who graduated from Chelsea School of Art in 2006, are graduates of Glasgow School of Art.

Penelope Curtis, the director of Tate Britain and chair of the jury, said: “The four shortlisted artists share a strong international presence and an ability to adapt, restage and reinterpret their own and others’ works, very often working in a collaborative social contexts.”

The £25,000 winner of the 2014 Turner Prize, which is open to British or Britain-based artists under 50, will be announced on 1 December at a ceremony at Tate Britain in London; last year’s winner was Laure Prouvost. The Turner Prize exhibition featuring work by all four artists will open on 30 September.
