32 works by contemporary artists including Roger Hiorns, Michael Landy and Daniel Silver have been auctioned at the Contemporary Art Society’s annual fundraising gala. Over £250,000 was raised, which will be used to purchase new works for museums across the country.

“Our annual gala auction is an opportunity to buy outstanding examples of work by some of the most talked about artists right now,” said CAS Director Caroline Douglas, “and, by doing so, to support museums all over the UK.”

Highlights of the auction were a marble sculpture by Silver, which sold for £21,000 and a blue crystal work by Hiorns, sold for £20,000. Works by recent Turner Prize winners Laure Prouvost and Elizabeth Price also went under the hammer, as well as pieces by David Austen, Charles Avery, Becky Beasley, Alice Channer, Marcus Coates, Claudia Comte, Keith Coventry, Angela de la Cruz, Matthew Darbyshire, Haris Epaminonda, Kovats, Christina Mackie, Haroon Mirza, Silke Otto-Knapp, Toby Paterson, Mick Peter, Olivia Plender, Fiona Rae, David Raymond Conroy, Michal Rovner, Samara Scott, Caragh Thuring, Rose Wylie and Catherine Yass.

Gavin Turk is a Contemporary Art Society Artist Ambassador: “CAS was able to put my work into national museums and, as an artist, that’s really where you want your art to be. It’s how to keep your art alive – it’s where it will survive.”
