The Lounge Lover, the Faker, the Ikea Expert
Paula Smolarska‘s steel sculptures take their influence from chair design, notably pieces from the 1990s that reference the 1950s/’60s school chair. The artist is interested in the way that the scale of the human body, particularly when viewed through furniture and architecture, becomes part of a larger pattern within the build environment. Accompanying the objects are a photographic series showing Smolarska seated in other people’s chairs.
2 December 2016 – 1 January 2017, Passen-gers, The Brunswick centre, London WC1N.

Connect:Katowice
This year-long project connects 12 UK-based artists with 14 artists/collaborative groups from Poland to explore a number of concerns relating to the politics of identity and communication, including the influence of Polish-British migration during the second world war. For this leg of the journey artists from each country have been collaboratively paired up to work together through a series of workshops at Hornsey Town Hall. The audience is invited to view this evolving process and attend a public talk on 7 December that will be held at Chelsea College of Arts.
2-16 December 2016, Ply Gallery, Hornsey Town Hall Arts Centre, London N8.
