The directors of three galleries in London have been awarded OBEs for services to the arts and media.

Brett Rogers, director at The Photographers’ Gallery, Margot Heller, director of South London Gallery, and Robin Klassnik, founder and director of Matt’s Gallery, were given their awards in the Queen’s 2014 Birthday Honours List.

Klassnik founded Matt’s Gallery in 1979 and last week the gallery celebrated its 35th birthday with a special fundraising party and dinner.

Rogers has been director of The Photographers’ Gallery since 2005. She said: “This is a great honour and one which deserves to be shared amongst all my team without whose support and commitment I could not have achieved all that I have.”

Heller joined South London Gallery as director in 2001. She has previously worked at Southampton City Art Gallery and Anthony D’Offay Gallery and the Hayward Gallery.

Other figures from the arts to receive OBEs were Namron Yarrum, ex-director of the UK Foundation for Dance, and Nisha Tandon, executive director of Northern Ireland’s leading ethnic arts and culture company ArtsEkta.
