Sacré 101 – An Exhibition Based on The Rite of Spring, Zurich, Switzerland

This group show at the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst looks at the interplay between dance and the visual arts through an engagement with Igor Stravinsky’s ballet The Rite of Spring (Le Sacre du Printemps). Featuring a selection of Rite of Spring documentation, the exhibition presents work by 17 artists – including Yvonne Rainer and Xavier Le Roy – that engage with the ballet and its history.

Motor of Modernity: Grup R. Architecture, Art and Design, Barcelona, Spain
This Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona exhibition analyses the impact in Barcelona generated by the presence of Grup R, who became a catalyst in both Catalan architecture and aesthetic culture for ‘the recovery of a lost modernity’ in the years after the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). Founded in 1951 and disbanded 10 years later, this exhibition shows how the influence of Grup R helped determined the modern style.

That Petrol Emotion, Metropolitan Art Society, Beirut, Lebanon
Beirut’s Metropolitan Art Society, opened by Lebanese fashion entrepreneur and art collector Tony Salamé in June 2013, presents a group show of Glasgow artists curated by The Modern Institute. Work by five artists – Martin Boyce, Jim Lambie, Victoria Morton, Michael Wilkinson and Scott Myles – is exhibited across this palatial space, formerly the 19th century Abdallah Bustros Palace.

Paweł Althamer: The Neighbors, New Museum, New York, USA
First US museum exhibition devoted to the work of Polish artist Paweł Althamer. Best known for figurative sculptures featuring himself, family and the wider community, the exhibition includes sculptures, films and a new presentation of his piece, Draftsmen’s Congress. This will see the museum’s fourth-floor gallery transformed through the gradual accumulation of drawings and paintings by visitors and over 70 invited community organisations.
