The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool has announced the jury for the £25,000 John Moores Painting Prize 2016. The five-strong panel, which consists of four artists and one curator/art critic, will select work that will go on show from 9 July 2016.

Gillian Carnegie is a British painter who studied at Camberwell School of Art and the Royal College of Art in London. She was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 2005.

Rev’d Dr Richard Henry Davey is an internationally published author, freelance curator and art critic. His commissioned essays include the catalogue for the exhibition, Anselm Kiefer, at the Royal Academy of Arts in 2014.

Ansel Krut, a South Africa born, London-based artist, studied at the Royal College of Art and was subject of a solo show at Jerwood Gallery, Hastings in 2014.

The London-based artist Phoebe Unwin won a Philip Leverhulme Prize in 2011. Earlier this year, she was shortlisted for the 6th edition of the Max Mara Art Prize for Women.

Finally, Ding Yi is a Shanghai-based artist working in painting, sculpture, spatial installation and architecture.

Entries to the prize, which is open to UK-based artists working with the medium of paint, will be judged initially from the submission of digital images. This will be followed by the viewing of a selected number of actual works. All paintings are judged anonymously.

The judges will announce a final shortlist of five paintings to coincide with next year’s exhibition. In addition to the winning entry, four of the shortlisted artists will each receive £2,500, while a Visitors’ Choice Award of £2,016 will also be awarded.

The deadline to enter the John Moores Painting Prize 2016 online is 12 noon, 9 November 2015. Artists must submit images of their painting by 12 noon, 16 November 2015. See jobs and opps for further details
