Exeter gallery Spacex has launched a new Kickstarter campaign. The target is to raise £10,000 which will go towards two artist residencies and a series of public events.

A number of artists have donated work, with pledgers receiving art in return for financial support. In addition, a variety of items from the Spacex archive, plus limited edition prints from across its 40 year history, will be made available as a reward  for donating.

Highlights include works by artists Salvatore Arancio, Lady Lucy and Laura Kikauka. Also on offer will be an original photographic print by Jem Southam, graphite drawings by Dawn Mellor and Laura White and a limited edition tin sculpture by Simon Pope. Scott King has also donated work from his solo show at the gallery last year.

In its press release announcing the campaign, Spacex said: “In response to funding reductions we have adapted the organisation to enable us to continue with a project-based programme. We have secured grant funding from ACE towards this year’s programme but this does not cover all costs. We need to find new sources of income, and support from the public, to continue this work.

“Donations of any amount will be welcomed. If everyone on our mailing list gives just £5 we will succeed!”

The organisation has 30 days to reach its target.

Spacex Kickstarter campaign: a special launch event for the campaign takes place on 23 May, 3:30pm.
