Arts Consultancy Addo, Glandŵr Cymru – the Canal & River Trust in Wales – and the Arts Council of Wales have announced the appointment of a-n+AIR members Andrew Dodds and Alan Goulbourne as the country’s first canal artists in residence.

A total of six artists’ residencies will be hosted over a three-year period, aiming to highlight the historic significance of Wales’ canals while increasing their current relevance to local communities. The scheme is part of the UK-wide Arts on the Waterways commissioning programme.

London-based Andrew Dodds began the eight-month North Wales & Borders residency in February. His project investigates the crossing of borders between Wales and England via the Shropshire Union Canal. Cardiff-based sculptor Alan Goulbourne will complete the four-month Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal residency in June. He has been exploring connectivity across the Canal & River Trust to create a work that interacts with the local community.
