Report points to the unsuitability of government-led metrics (ie quantitative data) when applied in the context of small-scale contemporary visual arts organisations. In funding terms, this can disadvantage small organisations, particularly those that are focused on artist development. Suggests that: “Rather than attempt to form a consensus on value through government-led applications of metrics, the sector could be supported to generate their own… It is proposed that the role of policymakers should be to allow the sector space to do so.” Very useful report for anyone who wants to find and use alternative concepts and language to describe aspects of cultural value.
