It remained dominated by small, well-established businesses who are generally taking advantage of technological opportunities. Retailers report steady sales. However maker’s craft-related income has declined in recent years with more than half of makers making less than £5,000 a year; a significant minority of makers felt they lacked general business skills, especially in marketing. Estimated number of contemporary craft-making businesses in the UK was 23,050.
