The painting is a realistic depiction of the mountains and valley areas of the Troodos region in Cyprus. I visited a lot of interesting locations while living in Cyprus at an artists summer school, including Tombs of the Kings, temples and mosaics, Aphrodites Rock and more.
Cyprus is a very interesting country. The landscape can be so varied. Sometimes the colours can be very Mediterranean, golden sandy beaches and deep blue sea and sky and other places it can look quite desert like with, earthy colours and dry ground. I remember the light was fantastic. My adventures where exciting, exploring sites I visited around the island.
So I have created this painting in a series of work in my Memories of Cyprus project, the artworks are developed from the drawings, photography, colour studies I created and the memories of my travels in Cyprus.
