Carlos Fernandes

These sculptures i had done in the second year of my course in collaboration with Holywells park in Ipswich.
It was a very interesting work, subject.
When i was fronted with the duty to find someone, i was honestly a little bit scared about, but i was starting to think, what i could do for my collaboration, and then i had to visit a friend, but i went through Holywells park in the direction of nacton road (Ipswich) and i start to think, why not to make something in the park, and the idea of doing some sculptures, reach my brain, and when i was home i start to do my exploration in what it could be done in the park. Must be something to create or provoke the curiosity of the park visitants, and i start to make research in David Nash, Henry Moore, Nicholas Pope

This is one of the artworks i was looking to reach my intentions, and clarify my context. And could be visible what i intent to do.
I will try to show in one movie how interesting and funny it was the process of carving, and all the Historical involvement, as I create with this sculptures something about History and the Gods from different cultures, like the Roman Gods, the Greek mythology, and as well the Mayas Gods to, when i decided to call each one of the sculptures as a monthly name but in Latin, i or better my intention it was to create something to catch the curiosity of the viewer, and to bring something with interest to the park, but now i will tell more about in the video.

Also a few photos from my installation at Holywells park, it was very funny.

After this i only need now at the present to finish the new names, because somebody stolen, i think four names and i had to done a more safe names otherwise i will be there every month. But now they look better and ready for the big opening , and that must be around July.
Also i show here all of then but in an individual perspective.

And from this post i think there are not so much thinks to say, only i will add a new video from the sculptures already installed, i hope also this post it was enough to reach my aim.

Perhaps there will be a few issues on the video but accept my apologies.

This post will be only to show the photos i had made during the first year in Lens Based Media.

More photos from the dancer.

All this photos are made in a lecture of drawing, where we had to done drawings in movement and also the photos in sequence it was very interesting and important for my developing or improve my skills, and also, it makes me think in all the possibilities to make good photos, and it was a great opportunity to see how immense is the World of photography and with thousands or billions of possibilities to make photos under the conception of Art contemporary.

Another possibility to make photos, with different subjects. Also in the second year i had two photos, entered in a award, “The Lumen prize”, it was a challenge very interesting because i was a little bit confuse about what to do, but i had the luck day, and the right moment to make two good photos as i show here.
These two photos they are the ones i send to the Lumen prize 2014, no lucky but anyway it was good.
And from now i try to show all my photos during my course, as i think it was very crucial for me to make all this photos, this because from one photo we can make good artwork, i try to show all of then. I will show all my photos here even if they are good or not, this because i like then.
Could be not visible my intentions in photo, but fair enough, when i make a photo i try always to make as better is possible, and also create a relationship between my concept and with the photo i want to make, photography could be one of the must interesting subjects in art, as photography for me it’s the moment when you take the photo, because there are photos , if you don’t take in the right moment you are subject to never can make, this because everything changes.
The photos i have about (Traces) it becomes all because of the subject ‘traces of index’ and all the study i had done in the first year and in all the course as well, i made a few photos about the subject.

PHOTOS
Another work I had made with a simply sheet of metal in my back garden, it was a very interesting work , and I am very focus in this kind of work.

Basically this work consists in a sheet of metal, and the weather conditions, which give me plenty of conditions to make a good artwork.

There it is the way how it starts the World of art.

Cave drawings on Sicily are created around this time, with the proto-Sicani being given credit for the work by some modern experts. Early coastal settlements can also be found, such as at Addaura (near Palermo). If the Sicani themselves are not responsible, then it is their Neolithic forebears, people who blend in with the later Sicani arrivals, possibly during the late Neolithic or Bronze Age periods. Alternatively, the Sicani are the aborigines who are influenced by the arrival of later peoples, such as the Elymi and Siculi around the tenth century BC.
And it was the beginning for the long live of drawing through the years, and in my first year it was a very interesting journey to, as i start to resume here.

Pablo Picasso one of the most famous artists in the World it’s a good example of evolution in drawing.
If we talk about Picasso it will be not fair enough to talk about for example in Leonardo da Vinci, Cezanne, Monet, Rembrandt and others important artists in the developing of art through the years.
LEONARDO DA VINCI

From now i will try to show all my developing during the course, until reach the main exhibition the degree show, it was a very important study during the last two and half years, the artists i use for source to do my work and as well all my artwork done. I will start with a review from my work
This drawings are a small example from what i have done in Drawing, a important subject in the meaning of this course
As i said , all this drawings are part of my learning and my evolution it could be not visible my evolution but there it was evolution in all the ways, but nothing better then the sketchbook to relate how it was my journey in this course and my evolution if it could be called evolution, because i think it was more a change of mind this course make in all my perspectives and intentions when i start this course.I will demonstrate all my journey or better the first year in drawing.
This is the link to my video:

I have to say apologize me if the video is to big but it was already done without the concern about duration time.I show this video in this post because the movie it was made between drawing, and lens based media and even drawing, but the subject from the video is all about Abstract expressionism and Jackson Pollock.

with this video maybe you can see better what i had done during my course.
Another video with my drawings, ideas for printmaking and other works.

With this video i try to show to everybody my intentions for the future.
But there are much more to see around the work i had done in the last 2 years.

It could be said that it was a very interesting subject, as well we had a few more lectures, where we had done more work about the movement.

Progress of learning.

DRAWING SOURCES- RESEARCH:
This it will be where i try to show all my research for study in various artists.
-MARLENE DUMAS.

Nothing better while starting to talk about Marlene then this massive exhibition in Tokyo in 2007, where we can see almost all of the work from her.

I will show also a few photos but in more detailed view, i choose Marlene for my study because, i use to say i don’t know how to draw , faces, figures, or maybe i have some fears in relation, but after seeing the work from Marlene, i start to lose a few fears about drawing, she it was a very important artist for the conception and understanding myself and what i really want with and from art.

It was because of her drawings, such a lovely and plenty of freedom. When i say freedom it’s because, i have a few fears about drawing faces or figures as i mention before, but after see the work of Marlene i start to think, in a much more positive way, thanks to Marlene and other artists as well.
As i said before there are more artists where i was focus, but i will post in the future.
there were more artists, also Portuguese artists like:
MANUEL CARGALEIRO

Drawing from Manuel Cargaleiro, Portuguese artist were I used to make research and I really appreciated all his career, with plenty of good work around Portugal.

This is a example of a light box, i also had done one as i will show photos and as well a movie.
In the beginning of my course in Lens Based media there was something catch my mind it was the work of Catherine Yass, such beautiful photos and the way she works with the colours, process done with the light box, and the contrast with the light.

For every artists taking photos are very important especially those who are selling their artwork. And this process of taking photos could generate a different and new way of doing photos, only with a cardboard box, which is very funny to do and the results are very interesting and i had done also a few photos as i will show here.

Light box could be the solution for make good photos indoors, and we can make stunning photos.
Another artist and perhaps more important is
Catherine Yass, artist who works also with light boxes to do his fascinating work with colour.

Her colour images are given a strong presence as a result of being mounted on light boxes; the use of solarisation around the figures’ heads, like auras, further enhances their luminosity.
Yass it was one of the artists it, as i said before it catch my mind with a strong influence, and it was very good in the way to understand better the conception of photos with the light box

This is the video where i try to describe my work
with the light box.

Also more photos from my work with light box.

To start this post nothing better then a video from the first year, it is a demonstration of how to make a casting face with plaster, the volunter it was Jen, and really it was very interesting and educative the process of casting, as I never seen before.

After this video I will start to show also my first sculpture in my course, it was done in metal, one of the materials i love to do my artwork.

It was when i start to be focus in the work of David Smith (1906/1965.) American abstract Expressionist sculptor and painter, best know for creating large steel geometric sculptures.

This it was the beginning of another sculpture where i try to do something about our situation between the system. It looks big but it is not so big as that.

This work also, i could say it becomes to my mind after again, a deep research in the work of David Smith
These work are examples from the artist where i was doing a deep research, to reach my intentions in doing this sculpture.
perhaps it’s not indicative what i want to create, but it is only, i try to explain the Human condition between the system and our live within. You can try to change but never change, and we always have to wait from the decisions, (meeting room), as well my work is done with the intentions to provoke, to catch the curiosity from the viewer. I will show a video also from my first sculptures in the course, and in this movie i show all the progress from me in my sketchbook, i try to make in a proper way for everybody understands better my concept of art.

This is the link for the movie i had done about my sculpture where i try to explain within my concept as seeing in the sketchbook.
And talking about,
