Would you like to devise your own schedule of professional development and take your practice in a new direction in 2016? Or maybe you need to develop your networks outside the UK and make relationships with artists, curators and organisations further afield to create opportunities for future work or collaboration?

a-n is offering two new bursary strands to Artist members for 2016, with applications now open for awards of £500-£1,000 to support either professional development or travel.

The a-n Professional Development Bursaries are available to support a self-determined schedule of professional development and can be used for artist-to-artist or curatorial critique, or to support the learning of new skills or research into a new area of practice. Applications are accepted from now and up to 12 noon Monday 22 February 2016.

a-n Travel Bursaries will be offered to artists who wish to travel in order to develop relationships and networks, and to create opportunities. Bursaries are primarily intended for international travel, though proposals for travel within the UK can also be made; funds can be used to support travel, accommodation and subsistence costs. Travel bursary applications will be accepted from now and up to 12 noon Monday 7 March 2016.

Both bursaries come with an obligation to produce a blog about the activity carried out in order to share learning and progress with the rest of the a-n artist community.

Announcing the new bursaries, a-n’s Gillian Nicol said: “We’re keen to support Artist members to carry out self-determined activity that is most relevant to their own practice.

“A core part of a-n’s professional development offer, since launch in 2013 the bursaries have enabled more than 130 members to be involved in activity including new collaborations, visits to artists groups around the UK and attending events like the Venice Biennale.”
