The five participants for a-n’s new Writer Development Programme, open to applications from a-n members, have been selected.

They are: Lydia Ashman (London), Sunny Cheung (London), Anneka French (Birmingham), Manjinder Sidhu (London) and James Steventon (Corby).

a-n News editor Chris Sharratt, who is leading the programme, said: “The standard of applicants was very high and, as expected, it was a tough call to choose just five.

“The final selection was about both strong writing and a desire to ensure that the chosen writers will really benefit from this kind of programme.”

The participants were selected by a panel consisting of Sharratt, Gillian Nicol (a-n Deputy Director and Head of Programmes) and Stephen Palmer (a-n Online Content Manager).

The programme continues until March 2016. Participants will undertake a series of writing tasks and mentoring, culminating in commissions for a-n News.

Three workshops will take place from September to November 2015, with Jerwood Space in London confirmed as the first venue.
