As reported in December, Bacc For The Future, a campaign set up by Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM), is calling for the inclusion of creative subjects in the Government’s proposed Baccalaureate Certificates (EBacc) in England. The campaign currently has the backing of 95 organisations and well over 40,000 individuals.

The introduction of the EBacc in English, maths, the sciences, history, geography and languages is part of a Government consultation that looks to ‘restore rigour and confidence’ to the examination system. Subjects including art, music, design and technology, drama and dance are all notably absent from this list.

ISM yesterday appealed to the arts community, and arts organisations in particular, to further back the campaign. Chief Executive Deborah Annetts said: “We already have support from organisations as diverse as RIBA, the Design Council and the BPI, so it would be great to have your support and your logo on the site.”

“Ministers are very much aware of this campaign, so we have a great opportunity right now to influence the government’s policy on creative subjects in schools. Please do sign up without delay!”
