The exhibitors for the 2013 Exeter Contemporary Open, now in its eighth year, have been announced.

Shortlisted from an open call that attracted submissions from Spain, the USA and Japan, as well as the UK, the nine selected artists include a-n Artist + AIR members Malina Busch, Anne Deeming and Julie Price, as well as Rachel Busby, Max Cahn, Hannah Mooney, Rebecca Ounstead, Oliver Tirre and Charlie Godet Thomas.

An exhibition of the selected artists will open at Exeter Phoenix on 13 September with the £1,000 first prize winner announced at a launch reception on 12 September. Other prizes include a £500 Additional Award and the £200 Audience Choice Award.

This year’s panel included independent curatoratorial partnership Day + Gluckman, artist and curator Kevin Hunt, and Exeter Phoenix Gallery Curator Matt Burrows.

Last year’s Exeter Open was won by the Spain-based French painter Olivier Larivière. Other award winners were Bristol-based Chloe Brooks and Ireland-based Anita Delaney.
