The Whitechapel Gallery has announced the appointment of Lydia Yee as chief curator. Yee will begin leading the exhibitions team in February 2015, taking over from Magnus af Petersens who joined the organisation in 2013.

Yee is currently curator at Barbican Art Gallery, prior to which she was senior curator at the Bronx Museum of the Arts in New York.

She is currently co-curating the British Art Show 8 (2015) alongside Open School East co-director Anna Colin.

Yee commented: “I am very honoured to be joining the Whitechapel
Gallery, which has long been a reference point for me as a curator. Its diverse and adventurous exhibitions and critically engaging publications have been hugely influential.”
