I am changing direction. Yesterday I completed some drawings of a series of rotating lengths of square section timber. On each side I would have an image. The timbers would be rotated by a more powerful 24V DC motor via a drive belt at the side. I will be able to control the speed of the rotation so that initially the image is obscure and then is gradually clarified as the speed decreases

I’ve had a bit of a breakthrough with my idea.

The aesthetic I want is as in these objects from the Library at Mafra Palace, Portugal
Black and ominous – sort of Joseph Beuys
I have done small scale trials with 12V motors
I want an inspired type of logical meaninglessness.
A big metal frame – brushed matt black. But I also want it to be not just in two dimensions- I want the structure to be fully in the round. Lugs for fly wheels and pulleys. Shelves for the motors. I am still working on the motors
The pulleys will suspend weights – long and thin ones – and also all black
There will be perhaps three different movements all happening simultaneously
But quite slow most of the time
Perhaps with the odd mechanical sound occasionally – This is an image of a 24V DC motor I will be using
