As I am in my final year of university, not only do I have to create work but have to write a dissertation which is a 3000 word essay. So instead of doing different ideas for studio practice and dissertation, I decided to combine the two and focus on Abstract Expressionism for my dissertation. As a result of doing this I have found that combining my dissertation with my studio practice has made my studies much easier to manage, also I don’t have to change the way I think when I go from one to the other. So in my studio practice I am looking at process art and in my dissertation I am looking at Jackson Pollock and Francis Alys.

As I have stated in my previous blog that I am going back to abstract expressionism. Because my work in studio practice is based on process art, I am able to link my dissertation into my work as well, so that they all link together. With that in mind I decided to work on canvas this year, the reason for this is because in previous years I have either work on wood or paper. Working on canvas was the best way to achieve the effects that I wanted. These photographs are the first experiment that I have created on canvas material, and now that I have worked on various different materials I have to say canvas is the best to apply paint and be able to move the medium without it soaking into the surface. Process art I find personal the best way to create a piece of artwork, just the idea of not knowing what the final outcome will look like is fascinating. My artwork is based on process, emotions and memories.
