A Thinner Line, featuring: Svetlana Atlavina, Bethe Bronson, Anna Cebular, Laura Marker, Alexis Panayiotou, Orsina Pasargiklian, has directly evolved from A Thin Line exhibition, held at The Willesden Gallery in the summer of 2022. The original exhibition included the work of five artists, working in the London borough of Brent who came together to seek and discover connections between their art practice.

During this collaborative process, the common thread identified between the artists was the concept of boundaries and thresholds; events and circumstances that exist on the brink between one thing and another. Each artist investigated these themes in their own individual way, producing works that explored topics such as gender’s role in society, the intersection between the urban and the natural environment, and the invisible edge that lies between presence/absence, reality/fantasy, truth/illusion, past/present. Therefore, A Thin Line speaks for the transitional space that exists within states and conditions.

The original group has now expanded to include six artists who continue to discuss connections and parallels found within their practice. These dialogues have led to new works and experimentation with a new range of materials and techniques. Using a wide variety of media, including, but not limited to, painting, ceramics, photography, textiles, and installation, each artist has approached the concept of A Thinner Line through research-led responses.

The result is an ambitious and diverse exhibition which explores age-old topics that are still relevant today: hierarchies, identity and its role in society, the intangible nature of time, our relationship with new technologies, and human interference with the environment. Each artist seeks to pinpoint the boundaries and limits of their chosen subject, by investigating the space that lies between, and uncovering what lies beyond.
