So a really interesting episode of thinking aloud, that tackles lots of issues around artists and the cultural industries and paying artists. Really relevant and worth a listen to. ‘Creativity – has it become the meaningless buzz word for our […]

The pilot programme for a potential new biennial in Plymouth, which launches in tandem with this year’s Plymouth Art Weekender, features newly commissioned site-specific work by international artists, exhibited in various historic and little-used sites across the city.
Our new monthly column presents a selection of international exhibitions at museums and art galleries that either allow free or discounted entry with an IAA card, now available to a-n members. This month we visit Finland, Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia, Iceland and Spain, and include solo shows from Pilvi Takala and Anna Boghiguian.
Several projects on the go and skipping from one to the other. I think they link up in an obtuse way: sound work and writing a journal article about holes; of building a performance space in the old toilet and […]
I sent 8 x A3 prints to the printers on Tuesday and spent yesterday writing and compiling a 24 page booklet to accompany my exhibition. It’s had two checks so far with some bits and pieces like typos corrected and […]
This piece will soon be on show in The Allotment, a lovely small restaurant owned and run by an artist friend who has just bought it. Thank you Victoria! Meanwhile, I’ve been working on some lino reduction prints, though I am […]

“Argillaceous Marl contains from 68 to 80 per cwt. of clay, and consequently from 32 to 20 per cent. of aerated calx. Its colour is grey or brown, or reddish brown, or yellowish or bluish grey. It feels more unctuous than the […]
In the Unite studios; early brainstorms around provisions, proposals, models, toolkits and home industries. These ideas developed further after our visit to Grizedale.
Background As an artist having used glass as a main material for about 10 years, I’ve been collaborating extensively with a digital artist for the past three years. Those projects re-ignited my interest in programming and introduced me to the […]
For the inaugural York Mediale festival, which presents work by artists who incorporate technology in their practices, female digital artists and activists Deep Lab tackle the ‘invisibility’ of refugees with a video work projected on York’s city walls. Laura Davidson reports.
I am interested in hearing from artists who started or restarted their practice in later life. It is a reasonable implication that ‘new’ older artists have often had to negotiate some complex situations as they piece together their efforts to […]
Really enjoying developing this work which, although grounded in my research around science, technology, evolution and change in the Anthropocene, now begins to take on a life of its own – both physically and metaphorically. Today’s progess: 2 x Letraset drawings (here’s […]
I went over the Penistone today to meet with the Penistone Arts Week team. We have been discussing the possibility of launching the newspaper during PAW and also screening some films related to mental wellbeing as part of our launch […]
With London’s Regent’s Park taken over by two vast temporary marquees as the international art world descends on the capital for Frieze London and Frieze Masters, we preview both fairs and other art, craft and design fairs and events taking place across the city from 1-7 October.
This year’s exhibition at Tate Britain is dominated by film from all four nominees – Forensic Architecture, Naeem Mohaiemen, Charlotte Prodger and Luke Willis Thompson. Fisun Güner applauds a strong shortlist and compelling exhibition.
I’m excited to be exhibiting with Paul Huxley RA in Conversation in Colour curated by the Royal Society of Sculptors and hosted by arebyte gallery, London. Preview is Saturday 6 October coinciding with Frieze London. (Please note RSVP is required and there […]
