In anticipation of this month’s release of Bob & Roberta Smith’s first feature film, Crescent Arts in Scarborough is hosting an exhibition of posters and memorabilia from the Art Party Conference, which took place in the seaside town last year.

On display will be a selection of posters commissioned for the 2013 event by artists including Jeremy Deller, Cornelia Parker, Leo Fitzmaurice, David Shrigley, John Smith and Patrick Coyle. Also on show, and available to buy, are a selection of campaign mugs and badges; as well as ceramic busts of Michael Gove created by artist Karen Thompson for her installation performance, GOVESHY.

The film Art Party, written, produced and directed by Tim Newton and Bob and Roberta Smith, builds on Smith’s 2011 Letter to Michael Gove and the events of the 2013 conference, to champion the importance of art and its place in the education system. The work, described as ‘part documentary, part road movie and part political fantasy’, will be shown in arts organisations across the country in a nationwide screening on GCSE results day Thursday 21 August.

Crescent Arts will be offering ‘fun, food and fabulous frolics’ at an Art Party Party! straight after its screening. Other post-screening parties are being held at a host of venues including Cornerhouse, Manchester; ICA, London; Chapter, Cardiff; and Bedford Creative Arts.
