After a considerable amount of time since the workshops back in April, I’ve been running after school kids’ comics workshops at a local school, which have recently finished at the end of June.

All details for this and an additional project I’ve been working on are documented in this blog: http://helendearnleyillustration.blogspot.co.uk/

With more time on my hands, I’ve been able to follow up on other things. The funding application for the LAN is still pending. I was invited to do a presentation in Boston at a time when I was too busy and at short notice, so it has been postponed. I had hoped it would be sometime this month, but it’s looking like the end of August now. Which is frustrating.

The Ayscoughfee Hall project was rejected by the curators. Which frees up my time to work on the new LAN hospital mural project – details are here: http://www.lincolnartistnetwork.co.uk/apps/blog/

So I’m busy, things are going well, with the prospect of more workshops in the next school year, this positivity is tempered by the recent budget announcements and my terror at the prospect of any cuts to tax credits with a son that is likely to be affected by some of the worst human rights abuses of the young unemployed as he leaves education.

It’s a disconcerting time.

The mural project is set for August; I don’t normally work during August, but it’ll keep me occupied, and the boys are old enough now to look after themselves somewhat, as long as I take any time out for caring responsibilities with support from Sarah. It isn’t ideal, but I expect to have some time off in the next few weeks.

I’m currently enjoying some time off over Easter for a much needed break.

I just wanted to drop in briefly between finalising a funding application for the LAN – which is now being set up as a social enterprise properly – and while I’m awaiting input for the Ayscoughfee proposal, to mention that I’ve been invited to take part in a local Question Time style event coming up in Lincoln, and I’m currently thinking of some appropriate questions to ask the panel.

Following from the Arts Question Time, and a recent Question Time broadcast here in Lincoln, I wish to support Paying Artists to find out what local representatives can do to support artists and the arts.

I’m currently taking some time to think of some poignant questions to ask – any suggestions are welcome!

Also, I’ve been invited to take part in a separate piece for local news BBC Look North about arts and education – *panic mode on*

This week is the last of the LAN/Onlincolnshire workshops. Yesterday we invited Paul Wilson from the Onlincolnshire network to offer advice on making an income from blogging – useful for participants not familiar with social media at all, and for those of us that already have blogs etc, it was useful to work out how to make the best use for it, although it still seems that it requires a lot of time investment and effort for very little reward, especially initially, but there was an example of a successful blogger that does earn a substantial income, so it is entirely possible as an avenue of generating an income for your expertise.

There was a second last minute drop out for an artists’ talk at The Collection, and I was mistaken for a lecturer.

I’ve been invited to run some after school workshops at local schools, on comics, as part of my illustration practice, and I need a copy of my public liability insurance – not sure which bit of a-n I need to go to find that – please help!

Thursday’s first LAN/Onlincolnshire social media and digital arts workshop went very well indeed! Sarah and I arrived early to set up, and artists were so keen, they’d arrived early! And it was well attended – we had enough artists involved for a small group, and was well received.

I’d planned to do some live tweeting in the gallery space to make use of the recently addition of wi-fi, and it was slow starting. All details have been uploaded to the LAN blog

The workshops are popular and I’ve received interest from others, so I hope to extend some more if possible. I’ve also been invited to deliver some after school comics workshops coming up in May.

Looking forward to this weeks’ workshop, however, and I’ve come up with another idea for something that might become a collaborative project, but we’ll see how much time I have to make it worthwhile!

I don’t really want to create a new gallery, but I don’t seem to be able to insert individual images on here any more!
