The Sporting League: Game 27

Bayerns reached the seventy point mark with a three goals to two win over bumbling Bombaya…Novia remained hot on their heels with an away victory over DonsRed Star seemed to have turned a corner by winning away against Liver Halvers – Sporting Radio: Pundit A ‘ Look mate, it doesn’t matter what I try to say to you, I know you’re not havin’ the notion that the Halvers are a spent force in this league. Teams like them have been lowering the bar for too many seasons now. They always go hunting for top three rejects around this time of year on loans to keep the rest us enduring their painful football for what seems like an eternity.’

Sporting league: Game 26

Novia came back from two goals down at half time to beat Tranquilayers by three goals to two. Tranquilayers boss: ‘What are you supposed to say after your team seemed to have it in the bag at half time? I’ve got no complaints, our back line really let the rest of the team down out there…I’m off for a cigarette.’ Athletico kept up the pressure with a three goals to two win over Universo Collunteen

Sporting Radio: Pundit 1: Look, I’ve heard it all now, do you really think Athletico have got the strength to keep up with Bayerns and Novia. I’ve said all season that they needed to bring in some quality over the summer to sustain themselves. I think they looked leggy out there today and only got the points after a dubious goal. We’ll see whether or not they prove to be a coupon buster, I have my serious doubts on that one.’

Zindustrious had a lot to be pleased about after their two goals to nil win over Dons as they eased out of the danger zone for the time being. Zindustrious boss: ‘We’ve just made a deal with Halloch Corporation which basically means that we can hold onto our loan players until the end of the season!’

Leaders Bayerns were held to a nil – nil draw against Olby and were lucky to hold on after a shot from the opposition appeared to have crossed the line but was ruled out. Olby boss: ‘I don’t understand how the ref missed that one. Lets just say that I’ve already been fined for my comments this season, so I’ll let you fill in the missing gaps about what I’m really wanting to say right now.’

Athletico moved back into contention with an away win over the Delta youngsters. Delta boss: ‘We’ve decided to bring forward our policy of giving the youngies a chance now. We’re out of contention on all fronts so now is a good opportunity to see how the youth academy is coming along.’

Universo Collunteen proved to be too strong for Bombaya and now look like they could challenge for honours in future seasons. Universo boss – ‘We’ve kinda changed our philosophy over the couple of years that we were out of the league, did a lot of touring and that. I think we could be challenging for honours sooner than the big guns would like to admit – in spite of our tight budget.’

Sporting League: Game 24

Leaders Bayerns made hard work of their match against Indentine, finally running out as two goals to one winners. Bayerns boss: I never doubted that we’d get a result here, but the opposition made it difficult for long spells. I think Indentine are one of those love ’em hate ’em clubs – I love ’em coz we beat ’em! Novia won their game against Yop Lane with two fine first half strikes from their number one player. Novia chairperson: ‘Well that kept them quiet didn’t it? We heard so much hype from Yop Lane prior to the match that I was getting a bit of the old earache! Well done to our lot for keeping them quiet. I mean, who wants to lose against a team with the most ridiculous name in Sporting League history?’ Olby lost touch with the leaders after stumbling by a goal to nil against a rejuvenated Colne who looked as though they wanted to make a break away from the drop zone.
