Sporting League: Game 20.

Second and third placed sides Novia and Universo Collunteen cancelled each other out in a game that had everything apart from the goals

Pundit X: ‘That was a cracking game…I thought Novia had nicked it in the last minute but the ref judged that their player had handled the ball into the back of the net. It was a tough one to call to be fair…’

Leaders Pointeso looked unconvincing at home to struggling Lunderbach but managed a one – nil win.

Champions Tranquilayers all but ended any remaining hopes for Athletico this season as they recorded an impressive one – nil victory.

Sporting League Results: Game 19

Novia edged to within one point of the leaders with a comprehensive away win over a lethargic looking Chamber Athlete.

Pundit C ‘What I do know is that some of the Novia players out there today were in the 2009 championship winning team – but they’ll be gone within the next five games. I think they’re really gonna miss those defenders – its crazy business them getting top dollar for those guys before they’re put out to pasture. It’s definitely gonna be a sticking point for them and could cost ‘em the title.’

Pointeso slipped up against a gritty Zindustrious outfit who bullied the leaders on a windswept rainy evening.

Zindustrious boss: ‘We were never going to make it easy for them here. I think they showed some flashes of brilliance but we kind of took the sting out of their big guns.’

The old school clash of the titans ended up with a win for Tranquilayers by two goals to one against Bayerns.

Pundit X: ‘I think Tranquilayers did a good holding job on Bayerns – some great defensive play. It was quite a day – great to see the faded champions Tranquilayers take the game to Bayerns…it was quite a statement. There was talk of a nil-nil score line at the start of the match. I couldn’t believe that the Bayerns no1 wasn’t even on the bench – with his experience, his pedigree and quality, okay he might have had a bit of a knock in the last game – but seriously….leave him out against their biggest rivals Tranquilayers.’

Universo Collunteen and Athletico also quietly racked up wins to keep in firing distance of the top two.

Sporting League: Game 18

Universo edged it in their game against Olby, with a cool strike from their in-form winger on the stroke of half-time.

Post match interview excerpt…

Pundit L: ‘I thought some of your senior players seemed to be treading water out there in the first half; do you think that was a bit of a lucky escape?’

Universo Boss: ‘Not too sure we were watching the same match to be honest. You’ve got to remember that we’ve had quite a few injuries but the senior players put in the same shift as the rest.’

Pundit L: ‘Do you think the next game against Novia could prove to be pivotal to your season, I mean, Pointeso aren’t likely to slip up too often.’

Universo Boss: ‘Nah, we’ve just got to concentrate on ourselves and the collective performance. Yeah, we’ll be doing a bit of work on the training pitch but I can guarantee that we’ll be there or thereabouts come the business end of the season.’

Pointeso didn’t need to get out of second gear with a confident performance at home to struggling Saints.

Yop Lane were triumphant in their mid-table tussle with Zindustrious – winning by two goals to nil.

Universo Collunteen college geeks have recently hacked into a leading Sporting City marketing department.

This easy trick, known to every Universo Collunteen college student, led some to deride the Sporting City Haatro Associates as a technological free for all freefall. People in the news industry, however, say the Haatro deliberately chose to make their site firewall easy to bypass so as not to alienate casual visitors.

The Sporting League: Game 17.

Pointeso swiftly returned to winning ways with a three goals to nil away win over fading champions Tranquilayers.

Pointeso Gaffer: ‘It was always going to be a tough ask to go to the fortress that is Tranquilayers pitch and get three points. I think our adhoc unconventional style caught Tranquilayers on the hop at the end of the day. Our players had no idea of the team selection until ten minutes before kick-off.’

Tranquilayers boss: ‘That was a case of us getting one thing solved – three of our senior players back from injury but another break-down with that poor performance.’

Novia came back from two goals to one down to eventually run-out as three two winners over Zindustrious despite having their number one player sent off in the first minute of the match.

Universo Collunteen cranked up pressure of their own to get the better of Sporting Athlete by four goals to nil.

Pundit X: ‘I enjoyed that one. It was a champagne performance out there by the 2010 champions.’

Sporting City is entering a potential financial meltdown of vast proportions. Financial whizz Prof HJ Hypothesia -‘The dam may be on the brink of breaking it’s banks. It looks like it could be a shroud of dark matter…its not what we can see that’s important – its what we can’t…’

Sporting League: Game 16.

Runaway leaders Pointeso suffered their first defeat of the campaign with a three goals to two loss against plucky Red Star.

Red Star boss: ‘There’s a lot of talent in our squad and we proved that against the champions elect. We had the heart and determination to stick in the game. We were physical…we didn’t let Pointeso play their natural game in the second half. We controlled things after we scored straight at the start of the second half.’

Pundit L: ‘What did you see from the outset that you thought ‘We’ve got a chance here?’

Red Star boss: ‘I thought we’ve got to concentrate on our own game and let the rest take care of itself. We had a totally different mindset for this one compared to the defeat by Novia. I think Pointeso were thinking ‘hey this isn’t in the script.’ It was a fantastic performance by our guys – now for the match against Green Tree.’

Pundit L: ‘Good luck’

Red Star Boss: ‘Thank you.’
