Internal assessment is over. I feel it has gone ok. I also had several interesting conversations and the focus of my work is moving towards the dialogues that are happening around the topic I have chosen to base my work around; to build a house and home.

The conversations often move away quickly from the actual build I’m working on and swing over to people’s stories and expriences. I like that very much. How do I capture those stories? I don’t record them as I would have to ask people for permission and that would alter what they feel they could say and it wouldn’t be a natural conversation. Therefore I simply make notes afterwards. Now I’m looking at works by other ‘dialogue artists’ or ‘ converstionists’ not sure what they are called.

How is this work different from anybody else who builds a house? Well, it is seen as art and presented in this context; I am putting it in a very specific form with a very specific aesthetic; and anyway, does it matter?

All the work is up and the exhbition doesn’t flow. Works somehow look like they have been put down and now need to be curated. There wasn’t time for curation as several of the works came in at the end of the week when we had the whole week to set up an exhibiton. So frustrating.

More work has gone up around mine and its great to see how it all communicaties together. I think I’m sorted apart from too many cables hanging around under the table coming from a DVD player, speakers and projector. I ddded a DVD player last minute as it keeps the slide show going uninterruptedly and I can work on the computer independantly from when I need the slides on. Stuff itself is set up it only needs me there and the dialogues to happen. Can’t wait to go there and start my daily routine. I am a bit nervous about how it all will work out especially the Long Table Discussion where I’ll invite people to join me on Sa 21st 10am-12noon. I will talk about my projct and then open up discussion. What if nobody feels there is anything to say or it isn’t interesing for people what I’m doing … well then I’ll have to deal with it there and then.

Fantastic having a big space as a studio. I got the first coat on stools finished and hopefully second coat tomorrow. Me sitting in the middle of the space has already attracted some people that float around in at S1 Artspace. Conversations have started. Yippie!!

I learned about Mike Reynolds also called the ‘garbage warrior’. An American architect based in Mexico known for design and construction of earth ships; incredible work! Will have a closer look tonight.

Also got some really good feedback which I can do with right now. Need to sort out the slides for the projection to let them ran as a slide show and pay some attention to the order I’ve put them. Looking forward to getting back in there tomorrow.

Finally today I could get into the gallery space at S1 Artspace and start setting up. The table looks a lot smaller in the space than I thought. I have started painting the seven stools black. They will be positioned around the table. Another coat tomorrow and then they will hopefully be done. The projection of the images of the land looks fine on the column, that’s great.

Also I know now where the other artists will have their work and I can’t wait to see it and get a feel for how it all works together. There are three of us twelve that going to be there daily.
